“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,” (John 14: 27 NKJ).
The best date of my life is when I was actually alone and detoured awhile from driving to work. Emotionally and physically I was under enormous strain but I heard my heart speak out, “I’m going to enjoy the drive because my Jesus is with me,” and the return voice said, “Pull over my daughter.” So, I did. I took the next exit and parked a couple minutes later on the side of the road, with a mountain on one side and a cloudy overcast beach on the other, that seemed to beam down light just in front of me. I found a rock and sat, resting into the sound of the waves and feeling the presence of the Lord. I was on a date with Jesus.
How remarkable is His comfort to lead His child into a moment of rest and enjoyment with Him. Still and at peace, surrounded by His love. “I am the Light of the world,” He reminded me. Further, that it is near Him that we are refreshed and brightened up. “Without Me, you can do nothing,” (John 15:5b), therefore even our peace and solitude is dependent upon Jesus being present. Thank you Lord, that you guide us to pause with You and when we are overwhelmed, You are so near and want to lead us into stillness and delight.
“I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings,” (Psalm 61:4 NKJ).
